AT2017ixb

Supernova (candidate) discovered on December 13, 2017 in NGC841

AT2017ixb

I expected an easy target, since it seems that the first reported observation reported a magnitude around 17.0

The fact is that after downloading the first image I realized that in the position where supernova should be, apparently nothing was visible ... another false positive? Two in a week ... strange, so I started to collect shots and stretch and stretch image histogram, and... wow! something appears, but far from magnitude 17 :)

It is very difficult to observe, but if we look closely, there it is, a weak star:

AT2017ixb

According to my calculations, around magnitude 20.64, a real surprise, not too bad for my sky, close to Madrid city.

AT2017ixb

After several days following this supposed supernova, it is not clear to me at all if it is or once was a real supernova.

It seems that is harder to detect something these dayst and it has not been possible for me to make a reliable measurement at all...
